Does the Implant Work?

I get asked about Bryces cochlear implant (ci) so I thought I'd sketch a picture. The boys have neuropathy. This means their signal is like a loose wire. It cuts in and out and the message isn't always received or its distorted.
Bryce has had a Ci but we really don't know how well, or the benefit, he'll receive.
There's also this tricky part about where the lesion takes place. If it happens around the cochlea and the implant is able to bypass the damaged spot, then there will be a good signal. If the lesion happens along the auditory nerve, closer to the brain, there will most likely be good responses. There will still be benefit but not like if there's a bypass. We have no idea where the lesion might be so it's a bit of a gamble. There's really two options for the boys. 1. We do nothing, they lose their hearing and never hear again. 2. We have CI surgery and hope and see the outcome.
Bryce had his speech evaluation and the therapist told me about a little girl that didn't have much benefit on one side. When the other side was implanted, she took off.
We do have a surgery date for Brayden of March 30th. We're hopeful his implant is successful.
